Introducing Postmodernism: A Graphic Guide
by: Richard Appignanesi
What connects Marliyn Monroe, Disneyworld, "The Satanic Verses" and cyber space? Answer: Postmodernism. But what exactly is postmodernism? This graphic guide explains clearly the maddeningly enigmatic concept that has been used to define the world's cultural condition over the last three decades. "Introducing Postmodernism" tracks the idea back to its roots by taking a tour of some of the most extreme and exhilarating events, people and thought of the last 100 years: in art - constructivism, conceptual art, Marcel Duchamp, Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol; in politics and history - McCarthy's witch-hunts, feminism, Francis Fukuyama and the Holocaust; in philosophy - the work of Derrida, Baudrillard, Foucault and Heidegger.

Postmodern Times: A Christian Guide to Contemporary Thought and Culture
by: Gene Edward Veith Jr.
The modern era is over. Assumptions that shaped twentieth-century thought and culture, the bridges we crossed to this present moment, have blown up. The postmodern age has begun.
Just what is postmodernism? The average person would be shocked by its creed: Truth, meaning, and individual identity do not exist. These are social constructs. Human life has no special significance, no more value than animal or plant life. All social relationships, all institutions, all moral values are expressions and masks of the primal will to power.

A Poetics of Postmodernism: History, Theory, Fiction
by: Linda Hutcheon
Neither a defense nor a denunciation of the postmodern, it continues Hutcheon's previous projects in studying formal self-consciousness in art, but adds to this both a historical and ideological dimension.

Art and Laughter
by: Sheri R. Klein
This is the first book to take seriously (though not too seriously) the surprisingly neglected role of humour in art. Art and Laughter looks back to comic masters such as Hogarth and Daumier and to Dada, Surrealism and Pop Art, asking what makes us laugh and why, and exploring the use of comedy in art from satire and irony to pun, parody and black and bawdy humor. Encouraging laughter in the hallowed space of the gallery, Klein takes us on a tour of the comic work of Red Grooms, Cary Leibowitz, William Wegman, The Chicago Hairy Who, Richard Prince, Bruce Nauman, Jeff Koons, Vik Muniz and many more.

Modern and PostModern Art Project
Is Makeup Art? Makeup is a form of art because makeup uses the elements that art consist; line, color, value, space, form, texture, and shape. A makeup artist uses the human body as their foundation and mixed media materials to create their art work. Makeup was originated in 3500 BC in Ancient Egypt. Egyptians uses makeup such as black eyeliner, lip ointment, and gold color shadows to enhance their face structure. Further along, women in the Far East uses white powder to create a lighter skin color because they desire glowing white skin complexion. Makeup also known as cosmetics increased rapidly in the 20th century. Nowadays, it doesn't matter what gender or age you are; women, men, and children uses makeup for fashion shows, music videos, magazines, modeling, and for personality appearances. Cosmetics is art that uses the human face or body as a canvas to create their formation surrounded by the human's features; eyes, nose, and mouth. Like painters, makeup artist uses brushes, colors, pencils, and other mixed media tools to help them master what they want they human face to look like, what they want to draw, and what they want to proceed. Makeup is art.

A Woman's Touch: The National Museum of Women in the Arts
The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC offers the single most important collection of art by women in the world. The museum provides an astonishing survey of women artists representing every major artistic period from 16th-century Dutch and Flemish still lifes to 20th-century abstract expressionism to postmodern art. This GREAT MUSEUMS special reflects on everything from how women artists have been overshadowed in art history to feminism and the French Revolution to the memorable feminine artistic expressions of the late 19th century. The good news is that due to shining stars like the National Museum of Women in the Arts women artists in the 20th century are anonymous no more! The program integrates themes of history and diversity with art the great common denominator.
